No So Mo modular clothing concept

University final major project, completed during the first Covid-19 lockdown.

Or someone else will hire you to build theirs. Here is how you can take action – starting today.

This research project was initiated as a follow up to "wear the rain" (2019, Alex Ross-martin). which formed an initial investigation into the intersection of generative design and garment development.

The result of that project was a concept for a jacket with simulated anti-gravity rain flowing over it. the simulated rain was realised into 3d geometry with the idea of 3d printing onto polyurethane fabrics via a process of flattening the 3d model into traditional fabric pattern pieces. The follow up to that project is an exploration into the realisation of generatively design techniques into real and tangible garments.

The project is a series of experiments exploring the possibilities of generative design in garment creation. These experiments search for new ways digital design and manufacture could change the life-cycle of our clothes and led to the development of NO SO MO, the no sew modular clothing concept:

A work-flow for designers and garments which are more sustainable, repairable, mass-customisable and conceptually unique.

The project was initiated in late 2019 and continued until submission in mid 2020. During this time the UK was experiencing the first major lockdowns as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and as a result the the bulk of the project was carried out at home with access to a desktop 3D printer and no access to external assistance. Video presentation shot and edited by me.

This project was very well received at recieved a special commendation, I would like to continue research in this area when time allows...
